What defines the poetry of romanticism?
Romantic poetry is a genre that can be defined as a work which includes the imagination and emotions of the author in response to the world around them. It is in direct contrast to the objectivity portrayed in neoclassical and classical forms. In Britain William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge are widely credited with starting the trend closely followed by a younger generation such as Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats. In Germany Novalis and Heinrich Heine are notable examples from the same period however many countries have had poets which could be called Romantic.
